Use of mosquito nets best malaria prevention – Medical practitioner

A Kano-based medical practitioner, Dr. Fawziyya Ahmed, has identified the use of mosquito nets as the best and most effective prevention against malaria.
The doctor, who disclosed this in an interview with news reporter in Kano, on Monday, added that the use of nets was favored due to the nature of our environment, where there were open drainages everywhere.
Ahmed warned against self-prescription of drugs as was usually practiced, urging residents to make little savings in order to purchase mosquito nets.
“The state and the Federal Governments are trying, as they distribute free mosquito-treated nets annually, but the country’s population makes it difficult for everyone to access the free nets.

“So, it’s advisable that people invest in buying the nets, which are cheaper than anti-malarial drugs and injection to treat the ailment,” she said.
The rainy season, she said, had already begun, thereby creating the right environment for the mass breeding of mosquitoes, especially in areas with contaminated water.
She, therefore, appealed to residents to ensure good environmental hygiene to prevent mosquitoes from breeding.
