Court upholds Aminu Ado Bayero as Kano Emir

A Federal High Court sitting in Kano has set aside all steps taken by the Kano state government to repeal the Kano Emirates Council Law.
The court, in a ruling on Thursday, also nullified the reinstatement of Muhammadu Sanusi II as the 16th Emir of Kano.
The presiding judge, Justice Abdullahi Muhammad Liman, ruled that Aminu Ado Bayero is the recognised Emir of Kano.
Justice Liman also set aside the action of the Kano Government, ordering parties to maintain status quo.
“I hereby order that every step taking by the Government is hereby nullified and becomes null and invalid and that this does not affect the validity of the repealed Emirates Law but actions taken by the Governor, which includes the assenting to the Law and the reappointment (of Sanusi),” the judge ordered.
