The Chairman, Revenue Mobilization and Fiscal Allocation Commission, RMAFC, Engineer Elias Mbam has blamed the death end for the new revenue allocation formula for the three tiers of government on lack of political will.
He said under the current formula, the Federal government takes 52.68 percent, States 26.72 and Local Government 20.60, with 13 % derivation revenue going to the oil producing states
In his words ”The Federal Government and other critical stakeholders in the country are yet to muscle the political will.” He added that all stakeholders, all levels of government are not ready for it. There should be money for it. There should be cooperation, each level should be able to do its work
Engr. Mbam who blamed the non-provision of funds to carry out the exercise, also explained that “The various stakeholders, which are the three tiers of government were not committed to a new sharing template as they were not cooperating to get the exercise done
He added however, that a new one could only be formulated at the end of the process whenever it is carried out. “It is a process and the end of the process will determine a new formula” he said
