The Gombe State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old man, Musa Adamu, over allegations that he violently attacked his girlfriend, attempted to kill her, and stole ₦100,000 from her residence in Gombe.
The arrest followed a formal complaint lodged at the Pantami Divisional Police Headquarters by the victim, prompting swift action by operatives of the Command.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the incident reportedly took place in the early hours of June 9, 2026, at the victim’s residence in Riyal Quarters.
The victim told investigators that the suspect allegedly broke into her apartment around 2:00 a.m. by scaling her fence and forcing entry into her room.
“The suspect allegedly attacked her with an iron hammer and attempted to strangle her using a USB cable before stealing the sum of One Hundred Thousand Naira (₦100,000.00). He fled the scene immediately after she raised an alarm,” Abdullahi said.
Police said the victim sustained severe injuries and was quickly taken to a medical facility for treatment after officers arrived at the scene. She was later discharged after receiving care.
Following the complaint, detectives launched an immediate investigation which led to the suspect’s arrest at about 9:45 a.m. the same day.
The Command also confirmed the recovery of an iron hammer believed to have blood stains and a USB cable allegedly used during the attack.
Preliminary findings indicated that the suspect, who was in a romantic relationship with the victim, had earlier on the same day requested money from her, which she refused as she is a businesswoman.
Investigators believe the refusal may have triggered the violent assault.
The suspect is currently in police custody as investigations continue, with the Command stating that he will be charged to court upon completion of the inquiry.
The police urged residents to report suspicious behaviour promptly, reaffirming its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property across the state.
