Segun Showunmi, Sowore clash over PDP chieftain’s visit to Tinubu

The 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has bashed a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Segun Showunmi for visiting President Bola Tinubu.

Showunmi had earlier posted a picture of himself and the president which was taken during his visit to Tinubu at his Ikoyi residence.

The PDP chieftain and ally of Atiku Abubakar wrote, Sallah Day 3!
I spent quality time with the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria. Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR.
It was engaging and nostalgic.”

The visit, however, didn’t sit well with Sowore, who bashed Showunmi for what he described as being double-faced.

He noted that he wasn’t surprised to see the politician in a photo op with the president, due to memories they shared as students of the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

He wrote, “Segun Showunmi and Double Speak! I have observed that Segun Showunmi’s behavior is characterized by double speak. Following the 2023 Presidential election, he reached out to me, expressing dissatisfaction with the nation’s path and proposing a unified front against the ruling elite, particularly Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s regime.”

He also wondered what an opposition member was doing with the president when talks of a coalition were ongoing.

In his response to Sowore, Showunmi dismissed the planned coalition, saying that the people involved were not to be taken seriously.

He also noted that he was free to visit Tinubu, who he described as a brother and father, adding that the time he spent with Tinubu was used for fruitful conversations.

“Omoyele Sowore my brother can you in all honesty say that the gang of the blind should lead the one that sees? Have you not observed the joke they call a coalition? I was very upfront that if by May 29 they don’t settle who the candidate is it will be tedious for any same person to joke about with them. Have you not observed their so-called leaders?

“Pray Yele shall I not greet our brother/father just because he is president! When their father was president did you see me there? Perhaps if you had allowed us to sit and review I might have been on your side given your efforts. I don’t see how anyone will let a Yoruba person in when a Yoruba man is president it will amount to taking the piss with the other zone. Whatever their fathers taught them our fathers are the owners of the manual.

“Look at Peter Obi ask where his party is? Look at Atiku Abubakar ask what has become of the party that gave him VP twice and the presidential ticket twice. Time spent with the president was deployed on very serious issues. I assure you,” Showunmi responded.
