Yuletide: Gov Sule’s wife donates N5m food items to widows, orphans

In the spirit of Christmas, the first lady of Nasarawa state, Hajiya Silifat Sule, has donated clothing and food items worth over N5 million to 300 widows and orphans in the state.
The first lady, while distributing the items at the Government House in Lafia on Monday, explained that the beneficiaries were 150 widows and 150 orphans, carefully selected from across the 13 Local Government Areas of the state.
The gesture which was done through the First Lady’s foundation, Salifat Abdullhi Sule (SAS) Hope Foundation was aimed at cushioning the hardship being face by widows and orphans as well as enable them celebrate Christmas.
She called on parents to take the education of their children, especially the girl child serious in order to make their lives worthwhile, noting that the era of not sending the girl child to school was over hence parents must ensure that the education of the girl child was given priority.
She also frowned at the increasing cases of rape and defilement in the society, adding that, perpetrators should be prosecuted to serve as deterrent to others.
In a remark the Commissioner of Women Affairs and Community Development, Hajiya Halima Jabiru, commended the first lady for the gesture, saying that it was part of the efforts by the government to deliver on their promises to better the conditions of women and children especially the vulnerable.
Responding, Hajiya Zainab Maifata, wife of Aminu Maifata, Chairman of Lafia LGA, expressed gratitude to the first lady for the gesture.
Zainab Maifata whose husband doubled as Chairman Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), said wives of the LG Chairmen would ensure that the items were use and not sold.
Hajiya Zainab Maifata therefore said non of the beneficiaries includes is a family member of those in government as a measure to ensure that the items were given to those who truly needs support.
Our Correspondent reports that rice, rappers books were among the items donated to the beneficiaries.
