#EndSARS: Nigerians have right to protest – Adegboruwa

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, has said in a statement that Nigerians have the right to a peaceful protest.
He said this in respects of the #EndSARS protests and the manner in which the police have been handling it. He further said that the government should concede to citizens right to have a peaceful protest.
He warned that never again must citizens live in a country where they cannot assemble freely to express themselves.
He also said Sections 39 & 40 of the constitution are very clear on this.
Adegboruwa said that because there are usually attacks on rallies, citizens usually wait on groups or organised labour to announce protests. He further stated that when there is a policy that citizens are unsatisfied with, the must be allowed to protest without police harassment and bogus charges in court.
“Once the rights to freedom of expression and association are gained, we don’t need to keep waiting on any particular organization or entity to organize peaceful civil disobedience, as is done in other climes”, the SAN said.
