The All Progressives Congress in Kwara State has constituted a five-member reconciliation committee to address grievances stemming from the party’s May 2026 primaries and foster unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Chairman of the panel, retired Col. AbdulWahab Ademola Lawal, told journalists in Ilorin on Wednesday that recent public disagreements among party members made the intervention necessary, though he expressed confidence that reconciliation was achievable since none of the aggrieved groups had left the party.
“We are all one family. We have watched and listened to all contending positions as they unfold publicly. No party to this misunderstanding has jettisoned the party,” Lawal said, describing the dispute as “a family feud” that should be resolved with understanding and mutual respect.
He explained that the committee had been mandated to engage aggrieved members and stakeholders across the state, determine the causes of the disagreements and submit recommendations to the state executive committee to promote healing and reintegration.
Appealing for calm, Lawal urged party members to avoid inflammatory remarks and cooperate with the panel. “We must unite, be formidable and poised to win the general elections,” he said, adding that the committee had already commenced consultations and would hold meetings across the three senatorial districts, including with the G15 and other interest groups.
Other members of the committee are Dr. Oluwatoyin Opawoye, Engr. Musa Yeketi and ACG Ahmed Abbass, while additional members were not identified at the briefing.
