Former Chairman of the now-defunct Pension Reformed Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina has been found guilty of money laundering by the Federal High Court, Abuja.

Recall that Maina’s son, Faisal was sentenced to 14 years in prison after finding him guilty on all three counts of money laundering involving N58.1million in public funds.

However, delivering his judgement on Monday, Justice Okon Abang held that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had produced concrete evidence to prove beyond reasonable doubt that the former pension chairman is guilty of money laundering in the sum of N171,099,000.

The court also found him guilty of concealing his true identity as a signatory to accounts opened in two banks.

The accounts had cash deposits of N300million, N500million, and N1.5billion.

Justice Abang held that Maina stole monies meant for pensioners as his salary and emoluments as a civil servant will not amount to the monies in the accounts.
