Adeleke plans AI-powered surveillance system in Osun

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has initiated plans to deploy artificial intelligence-powered cameras, drones and radar systems across the state as part of a proposed security and surveillance project aimed at protecting lives and property.

Adeleke disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday following a meeting with a delegation from Chinese firm Hefei Shengwen Information Technology Company Limited, led by its Director of International Operations, Cai Jianfei.

The proposed system will integrate drones, radar technology, AI-enabled cameras, robotics and Internet of Things solutions into a central Command and Control Centre to enable real-time security monitoring across Osun.

According to the governor, the project will cover schools, hospitals, banks, industries, farms, mining sites, commercial centres, motor parks and border communities.

It will also include a Safe School Project and a mobile application through which residents can communicate directly with the command centre.

Adeleke said the initiative would build on the establishment of the Osun State Security Trust Fund, adding that his administration was committed to using modern technology to strengthen the state’s security system.

“Our goal is to build an inclusive security system that protects every community and makes Osun State safer for all,” the governor said.

However, the statement did not specify when the surveillance system would be deployed, how much the project would cost or the timeline for its completion.
