Ajagba faces tough American opponent in Tulsa

Nigeria’s boxing rave of the moment, Efe Ajagba’s chances of having a shot at a world heavyweight title will further be put to test on April 10 when he takes on America’s Brian “MVP” Howard in a contest in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The fight which is a co-feature in top rank promotion’s fight between Joe Smith Jr. and Maxim Vlasov for the vacant World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Light heavyweight title is scheduled for 10 rounds.

Ajagba, whose last fight was on September 19, 2019 in unanimous victory over Jonathan Rice of the United States, is favourite to win this bout and improve on his current 11th place ranking in the World Boxing Council (WBC).

But MVP, at 40 years of age, 14 years older than Ajagba, is seen as a tough opponent who is going to give Ajagba a run for his money in this bout, going by his years of experience in boxing, having spent years in the light heavyweight division.

Though his last bout four months ago against Frank Sanchez of Cuba was disappointing for MVP, his record which stands at 12 knock-out in 15 wins from 19 professional fights, speaks volumes of quality boxer.

“MVP” does boast knockouts of Shawndell Winters and Carlos Negron, but he’s also 40 years old and coming off a brutal loss to Frank Sanchez. While Ajagba came up extremely flat in his top rank debut last September, so it promises to be tough fight.
