As excitement heightens ahead of the 2025 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), industry stakeholders and fans are abuzz with predictions and opinions about who will clinch the top categories.

Although, amidst this anticipation, the absence of some remarkable films and talents from the nomination list has left a trail of disappointment and reflection.
Here is a list of some remarkable movies that were omitted.

1.Everybody Loves Jenifa: The film follows Jenifa, now a successful entrepreneur and philanthropist, as she navigates challenges to her reputation when a new neighbor, Lobster, threatens to overshadow her community work. A subsequent trip to Ghana entangles her in a perilous situation involving a drug cartel, adding layers of suspense to the narrative. The movie which was directed by Funke Akindele herself, achieved remarkable commercial success, grossing over ₦1.88 billion at the Nigerian box office, making it the highest-grossing Nollywood film of all time .
However, Despite its box office triumph, the film was notably absent from the 2025 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) nominations

2.Kill Boro
Despite the buzz it generated and the emotional weight it carried, Kill Boro was surprisingly missing from this year’s AMVCA nominations. As a debut feature, Courage Obayuwana delivered a film that was both intense and thought-provoking. The performances, particularly from Kosisochukwu Ogboruche as Elijah and Philip Asaya as Boro, struck a deep chord with audiences—making their absence from the acting categories all the more disappointing. With its strong storytelling and emotional depth, Kill Boro felt like a worthy contender that didn’t get its due.

3.With Difficulty Comes Ease

Among the surprises in this year’s AMVCA nominations, the absence of With Difficulty Comes Ease stands out. Directed by Korede Azeez, the film was praised throughout 2024 for its quiet power and emotional depth. For many, this snub feels like a missed opportunity to spotlight one of Nollywood’s most remarkable stories of the year.

4.Green Fever
This movie explores the psychological impact of authoritarian regimes and the lengths individuals will go to protect their loved ones. The film’s slow-burning narrative keeps viewers on edge, gradually peeling back layers to reveal the true nature of its characters. While some critics have pointed out pacing issues and a somewhat abrupt ending, the film has been praised for its strong performances and atmospheric storytelling.
Despite its critical acclaim, A Green Fever was notably absent from the 2025 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) nominations, a snub that has sparked discussions about the recognition of genre films in Nigerian cinema.
