A former Niger Delta militant leader, Mujahid Asari Dokubo has said that the name Biafra belongs to the Ijaw people of the Niger Delta region.
Asari Dokubo said this during an exclusive interview with Arise TV monitored by THIS NIGERIA.
The ex-militant also knocked the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu for wanting an “Igbo Biafra.”
Explaining how Biafra belongs to the Ijaws, Asari Dokubo said “Ijaws are divided between the Bight of Benin and the Bight of Biafra. We are the owners of Biafra. It is an Ijaw name. The real Biafra is Ijaw and a little of Ibibio. In 1967, the eastern Ijaws were part of the Eastern region.
“Francis Okigbo, an Ijaw man, moved the motion for the adoption of Biafra. On the 30th of May, 1967, the Republic of Biafra was declared. It has nothing to do with the Igbos. I hear intellectuals talking rubbish. Can they dismiss this historical fact that the geographical location of Biafra is Ijaw? Ijaw territories were included in the declared Biafran state.
“The Biafran state that was declared in 1967 was not an Igbo state. It was the collective sovereignty of the people found within the borders of the British-created Eastern region of Nigeria,” he said.

Speaking on the feud between himself and Nnamdi Kanu, Asari Dokubo described him as an “empty-headed person.”
“He wants an Igbo Biafra. The name does not belong to him. He says Biafra is a Jewish state which is not true. I am not a Jew and will never be one. My ancestors are superior to Jews. It is only a tyrannical god that will create people and choose some of the people over others. That god is satanic and anyone who believes in such god is also satanic. That god is a forerunner to Hitler. I am a Kalabari Ijaw man. Kanu said Islam would not be allowed in his Biafra. Which Biafra? I have no business with his IPOB, as long as it does not concern the real Biafra. Even though I have some Igbo blood flowing in my veins, I am not an Igbo man today,” he stated.
