Constitutional Amendment : Give roles to traditional rulers NASS told

With the security challenges in Nigeria, the former personal Assistant to Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and a chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party in Edo State, Andrew Momodu on Wednesday advocated for a constitutional role for traditional rulers in order to help restore law and order.

Momodu an aspirant in the forthcoming 2023 Etsako federal constituency advocated this while briefing PDP press Corp in Abuja that recognizing the royal fathers constitutionally will help to curb security challenges across the country.

He therefore called on the National Assembly to take advantage of the ongoing Constitutional amendment to recognize traditional rulers and their custodian role in nation-building.

The Oshiomhole Aide described traditional institutions as a key developmental partner that requires Constitutional recognition to enable them perform their custodial role effectively and support government at all levels in maintaining peace and order.

“The ongoing constitutional amendment allows us to formally include some roles for traditional rulers in the governance structure and the administration of the country”

He maintained that beyond the political and economic aspects of the society, traditional rulers need to be integrated formally into the security architecture of their locality and thus enhancing the performance of security agencies across the country.

He said governments at all levels must position themselves to benefit from the mobilization capacity of traditional rulers and tap from their cultural Wisdom for the effective administration of the nation, the same way the colonial masters through the wisdom of traditional rulers accomplished their mission.

While thanking Governor Godwin Obaseki for giving traditional rulers in Edo State their pride of place, the former personal Assistant to Comrade Adams Oshiomhole assured them of greater days ahead after he has been elected into the Federal House of Representatives.
