The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has congratulated Nigerian-born nurse and social media personality, Bemi Orojuogun, popularly known as “London Bus Aunty.”
This followed the naming of a London bus stop in her honour.
Dabiri-Erewa described the recognition as a significant achievement that reflects the growing impact of Nigerians in the diaspora and their contributions to the communities where they live.
In a statement issued by NiDCOM on Friday, the commission’s Head of Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, said Dabiri-Erewa regarded Orojuogun’s recognition as a source of pride for Nigeria and Nigerians abroad.
The NiDCOM chairman said Orojuogun’s journey demonstrated how authenticity, passion and positive representation of one’s heritage could create influence beyond Nigeria.
Dabiri-Erewa said, “Mrs Orojuogun’s journey demonstrates how passion, authenticity and a positive representation of one’s heritage can create an impact far beyond the shores of Nigeria.”
Orojuogun gained popularity through social media videos featuring London’s iconic red buses, using her distinctive personality and interest in the city’s transport system to connect with audiences.
Through her online content, she has showcased aspects of everyday life in London while building a following around her interactions with the city’s public transport network.
Dabiri-Erewa commended Orojuogun for using her platform to entertain and connect with people while projecting a positive image of Nigerians living in the United Kingdom.
She also praised Transport for London for recognising Orojuogun’s contribution and her connection with the city’s transport community.
The NiDCOM chairman said the honour was further evidence of the contributions Nigerians were making in different sectors and communities across the world.
According to her, the recognition should encourage other Nigerians in the diaspora to continue making positive contributions in their respective fields.
She urged Orojuogun to regard the honour as an incentive to sustain the positive use of her platform and continue promoting values that would inspire others.
Dabiri-Erewa said, “The achievements and contributions of Nigerians in the diaspora remain a source of pride to the nation.”
She wished Orojuogun continued success and described the recognition as well deserved.
