Dele Farotimi kicks against Portable’s arrest

Human rights activist, Dele Farotimi, has condemned the arrest and detention of controversial singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable.

Recall that the singer was arrested on Saturday by officers of the Kwara State Police Command for alleged criminal defamation and other related offenses.

His arrest was confirmed by the spokesperson of the command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi who said they acted on a petition by Fuji musician, Okunola Saheed, popularly known as ‘Osupa’.

The statement read partly, “In view of the weight of these allegations and the supporting evidence presented, the Command secured a valid arrest warrant from a Magistrate Court sitting in Ilorin.

“Acting on this warrant, operatives from the Command proceeded to Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Saturday, 13th April 2025, where the suspect (Portable) was apprehended at about 19:25hrs. He was immediately brought to Ilorin for further investigations.”

Reacting, the legal practitioner claimed Portable was not arrested but abducted, bashing the officers and parties involved for encouraging impunity.

In a post on his Facebook page, Farotimi wrote, “I like neither Portable or his music. I believe him to be a walking violation of basic decency. BUT everyone responsible for his abduction and current incarceration in Kwara State are practitioners in the administration of impunity..🇳🇬🤔” (sic)
