Doctors at the Enugu State Nigerian Medical Association election turned the venue into a fighting ring on Thursday.
Warring groups within the association descended on each other as soon as the elections began. Police deployed for security had a hard time curbing the fight.
Held at the Micheal Okpara Square, the elections were supposed to usher in a new administration.
However, when the State Chairman, Dr Ike Okwesili was suspended over some allegations he was replaced by Dr Onyekachi Ugwuonye of the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital Enugu.
The resulting tension during the elections gave rise to the ensuing fiasco shortly thereafter and this caused several doctors to be wounded.
