The Department of State Services (DSS) has corroborated the security advisory issued by the US Embassy, on impending terror attacks in public places in the Federal Capital Territory.

The service also, recalled that it had variously issued similar warnings in the past.

While corroborating the impending doom, the Public Relations Officer,
Department of State Services, Dr. Peter Afunanya in a statement, said, it had received several enquiries relating to the security advisory issued by the US Embassy in Abuja.

While advising that necessary precautions are taken by all and sundry, DSS enjoined the populace to remain alert and assist security agencies with useful information regarding threats and suspicious criminal acts around them.

The Service also, called for calm as it works with other law enforcement agencies and stakeholders to maintain peace and order in and beyond Abuja.

Meanwhile, the Director Defence Information (DDI), Major General Jimmy Akpor warned defence correspondent against giving publicity to such advisory, so as not to inflame the situation.

According to him: “This is not for the press, even though the UK, US embassies have raised the alert. Before it filtered to the embassies, the intelligence community have been on top of the situation. The press covering it however, would only alarm and inflame the situation. It would serve no purpose unless it would stoke fear in the minds of Abuja residents.
So, without any violent act of terrorism, the terrorists would have yet achieved their objective, because the primary objective of terrorism is to instill fear”.
