At least one person has been confirmed dead in what has been described as genocide at the Lekki toll plaza this evening.
Soldiers attached to 81 Division Headquarters, Lagos, arrived the Lekki Tollgate two hours before the curfew began.
Staff of Lekki Concession Company (LCC) were caught on tape removing all the CCTV mounted on the tollgate. According to reports, streetlights were also disconnected and under the cover of darkness, soldiers started shooting at the unarmed protesters.
The soldiers were led by one Gen F.O Omata, formerly of Special Task Force Operation SAFE HAVEN and currently 81 Division Training Officer, Lagos.
The General was caught on camera warning the protesters to go home. “This is your last warning, go home. We are warning you, go home.” Shortly thereafter, gunshots were heard and as people scampered to safety, one lady was hit and she died on the scene. Two others were hit in the buttocks and thighs.
As things began to quiet down, protesters came out to attend to the injured before emergency services got to the scene.
Many others have been injured and both Lagoon and Reddington hospitals are receiving emergency cases.
In reprisals, the toll plaza has been set ablaze.
