Estate agents arraigned over alleged breach of peace
Two real estate agents, Kingsley Njoku, 53, and Blessing Nwachukwu, 50, on Wednesday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly conducting themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace.
The defendants, whose residential addresses were not provided, are charged with conspiracy, unlawful threat, breach of peace and unlawful arrest.
The duo, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
According to the prosecutor, ASP Akeem Raji, the defendants conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by threatening the complainant, Mrs Vivian Obiora, and unlawfully demanding N1.65 million from her.
Raji told the court that the defendants committed the offences sometime in November 2020 at No.30 Kofoworola St., Ikeja.
He alleged that the defendants prevented Obiora’s staff from working except she would paid them the sum as real estate agents.
He said that Obiora did not transact any business with the defendants.
The prosecutor also submitted that the defendants threatened to take Obiora to a shrine if she would not pay the sum.
“The defendants threatened the life of the complainant and unlawfully arrested her, thereby misleading the police,” he said.

The alleged offences violate Sections 95(1)(c), 168, 232 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The chief magistrate adjourned the case until March 10 for mention.
