Ex-EFCC boss, Bawa receives heroic welcome after release from DSS custody
Abdulrasheed Bawa, the former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Saturday, was welcomed by residents of his hometown after freedom from DSS custody.
In a video sighted by ThisNigeria, Bawa could be seen waving and smiling at the crowd, who cheered and chanted his name.
Recall that Bawa was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) in June 2023, over allegations of corruption and mismanagement of funds at the EFCC.
The former anti-graft agency boss was accused of embezzling over N580 million from the agency during his tenure as chairman.
He was detained at the DSS headquarters in Abuja for over four months, without being charged to court.
However, Bawa was released on Thursday night, after the DSS reportedly recovered the stolen money from him.
