As the time draws near for Mr. President to commission infrastructure projects in the FCT to commemorate his second tenure in office, finishing touches are being made on major road projects towards the commissioning date.
Following this, the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) has redirected traffic on some major roads in the city centre to allow the project to be finished.
The FCDA announced yesterday that it was diverting a segment of the Inner Southern Expressway, ISEX, to allow for the finishing of the interchange bridge.
In a statement by Yunana Dauda, acting Executive Secretary of the FCDA, they explained that the traffic diversion is to facilitate the construction of the road interchange on some major streets in the FCT city centre.
“Road users are advised that a traffic diversion will be implemented to facilitate the bridge construction located between Herbert Macauley Way, just after the Abuja International Conference Centre, to end at the intersection just before National Defence College, at the northern axis of the Central Business District, as well as the Herbert Macauley Way/Moshood Abiola Road intersection at the southern axis.
“The proposed diversion will redirect traffic from Herbert Macauley Way to Zakaria Maimalari Street, passing in front of the Abuja Environmental Protection Board’s Central Business District Office, with Chelsea Hotel on the right and Access Bank PLC on the left.
“Traffic will then proceed to Moshood Abiola Road, concluding at the Moshood Abiola Road in Area 1 and Herbert Macauley T-junction near the Abuja International Conference Centre, AICC.”
The FCDA assured that all other roads would remain open and apologised for the inconvenience the diversion would cause.
The FCT Directorate of Road Traffic Division, DRTS, the Police, and the Federal Roads Safety Corps, FRSC, have been mobilised to direct road users.
“Please be assured that access to all properties will remain unaffected during this period. Additionally, the FCT Directorate of Road Traffic Services, DRTS, the police, and the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, have been informed of this exercise.
“They will be present to enforce traffic regulations and ensure minimal disruption. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this road diversion may cause and appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this time.”
