The Federal Government has commiserated with the family and Government of Japan over the demise of its former Prime Minister of Japan, Mr. Shinzo Abe, whose tragic death occured on 8th July, 2022.
It also condoled with the family, Government and people of the Republic of Angola, over the passing of their former President, Mr. José Eduardo dos Santos, whose death also occured on 8th July, 2022.
Spokesperson, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Francisca Omayuli expressed the condolence to the two friendly nations in a statement on Saturday.
According to the statement, “The Federal Government of Nigeria is saddened by the tragic death of His Excellency, Shinzo Abe, former Prime Minister of Japan on 8th July, 2022 and expresses sincere condolences to the family and Government of Japan over the loss of an illustrious leader and statesman.
“The late Shinzō Abe will be remembered as a substantial and influential figure who engaged enthusiastically with fellow leaders from around the globe to promote economic cooperation and development”.

In a related development, the Foreign Ministry in a separate statement said: “The Federal Government of Nigeria extends deep sympathy and condolences to the Family, Government and People of the Republic of Angola on the passing of His Excellency, José Eduardo dos Santos, former President of Angola on 8th July, 2022.
‘Late President Eduardo dos Santos was a nationalist who will be remembered for the role he played in liberating and uniting his country. May his soul rest in peace”.
