Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has disclosed a plan to launch a N10bn housing scheme to address the increasing deficit of decent accommodation.

In a statement yesterday by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, the Governor informed of the critical project plan at the council chamber’s 23rd state executive council meeting.

The Governor expressed concerns over the housing deficit due to rapid urbanization and the poor management of the immediate past administration’s decision to invest more in affordable housing in the state.

Yusuf disclosed that the housing units, when completed parts, would be allocated to victims of flood in the state.

Earlier, the government announced the receipt of N3bn in Federal intervention to cushion the impact of the flood disaster, which will be distributed to victims.

Yusuf revealed that the federal government donated the amount to the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory as an intervention for the 2024 flood disaster.

The Governor further revealed that the money was remitted to the state treasury a few months ago in preparation for onward distribution to the affected victims.

He added that the administration kept the money appropriately to identify the real victims who would benefit from the Federal Government’s gesture and ensure prudence, accountability, and responsiveness in the process.

“Now that we are ready, we have all the lists of the victims; we know how much each victim will collect so that the distribution will commence,” the Governor assured.

He said the housing scheme, when completed, will support the Kwankwasoyya Gidi Gida administration’s efforts to support society’s less fortunate.
