McPherson University, Seriki Sotayo, Ogun State, has secured full accreditation from the National Universities Commission (NUC) for its Biotechnology programme, marking a major academic milestone for the institution.
The development was announced in a statement issued by the university’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Tokunbo Olakunle, who disclosed that the Biotechnology programme was among 10 academic programmes recently granted full accreditation by the regulatory body.
According to the statement, the approval was formally conveyed in a letter addressed to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Francis Igbasan, and signed by the NUC Director of Accreditation, Engr. Abraham Chundusu, on behalf of the Executive Secretary, Prof. Abdullahi Ribadu.
The Biotechnology programme, housed within the Department of Microbiology and Biotechnology, was recognised for meeting the commission’s academic and infrastructural standards.
Reacting to the achievement, Acting Head of Department, Dr Sunday Omeike, described the accreditation as a reflection of the university’s commitment to academic excellence and investment in quality education.
“We give all glory to God for the success of the accreditation, confirmed by the full accreditation status granted by NUC,” he said.
Omeike commended the university management for providing critical support, noting that the availability of modern laboratories, specialised equipment, and qualified academic personnel played a significant role in securing the approval.
“The Department wishes to thank the Vice-Chancellor and University management for providing the Department and programme with necessary support to fulfil NUC’s requirements exceedingly,” he stated.
He added that the accreditation team praised the department’s preparedness to produce highly skilled Biotechnology graduates capable of competing globally.
“I recall that the visiting team gave glowing remarks about our readiness to churn out the best graduates in Biotechnology for future exploits,” he said.
Omeike also reassured parents and prospective students that the university remains well-positioned to provide strong academic foundations in biotechnology and related sciences.
“I can assure parents and prospective students that choosing to study Biotechnology in our outstanding institution would be one of their best decisions towards laying the right foundation for an accomplished future,” he added.
Founded in 2012, McPherson University’s Department of Microbiology and Biotechnology, under the College of Natural and Applied Sciences, has continued to expand its academic offerings while producing award-winning graduates.
