The Chancellor, Veritas University Abuja, Arch. Bishop Ignatius Kaigama, says insecurity has continued to put the education sector, especially private campuses at risk.
Kaigama said this in his address at the 10th Convocation ceremony of the school on Saturday, in Bwari Abuja.
According to him, incessant attacks by bandits and other criminal elements on the education sector threaten the existence of especially private universities and the country at large.
” The attacks by bandits and other criminal elements on the education sector do not only affect the safety of students and staff in schools but also directly or indirectly affect the survival of private universities.
” I, therefore, wish to use this medium to call on the government to take drastic steps to improve on the security and safety of lives and properties in and around university campuses across Nigeria.
” This is in order to ensure their continued well-being, ” Kaigama said.
He, however, noted that in spite of the deteriorating security situation of the country, Veritas University had continued to soar higher through the storm.
The Arch Bishop while appreciating the school’s management for the measures put in place to ensure the safety of lives and properties on the campus, also thanked God for securing the school.
The school graduated 331 students from its 2020/2021 academic year, including 60 Post-graduates.
The Vice-Chancellor of the school, Prof. Hyacinth Ichoku, while congratulating the graduands, urged them to always remember to put into practice all that was taught to them, in their future endeavors.
”Never allow the success you attain in life to make you forget your humble beginnings especially at Veritas University.
“Cherish the friendship you have made with one another and never forget your lecturers and staff who contributed to making you who you are.
“Always remember the lessons instilled in you here. Be courageous to stand for the truth as long as you have a choice.
” If you let truth and honour be your guiding steps, you will soar like eagles in the sky in whatever endeavors you find yourself in life,” he said.
Ichoku had earlier at a briefing said 30 of the graduates made First Class Honours,151 in Second Class Upper, 130 in Second Class Lower, and 50 made Third class.

Presenting the Convocation Lecture, Mr. Kola Adesina, Managing Director, Sahara Power Group, encouraged the graduates to live a positive life of creativity, be adoptive and diversify in the interest of humanity.
He urged the graduates to also learn the ability to reinvent and the capacity to expand, while also adding that education is made to forge through the use of technology and digital advancement which he described as the drive for a better future.
