Kwara Commissioner assumes duty, solicits cooperation

Mrs. Deborah Aremu, the newly appointed Commissioner for Social Development in Kwara, has assumed duty with a call for a mutual working relationship with the staff of the ministry.

Aremu made the appeal during her maiden meeting with the workers in Ilorin on Thursday.

According to a statement, the commissioner noted some of the notable achievements in the ministry.

According to her, these include “the inauguration of the state committee on sexual and gender-based violence.

“Empowerment of over 500 women in medium and small scale business through the provision of equipment”.

She appreciated the management and staff while promising to work in synergy with them for effective work output.

In another development, the commissioner also sought a memorandum of understanding between the ministry and the Hausa Community Representative.

She said that the memorandum was necessary for making major streets free of beggars.

Aremu said that the state’s Street Begging Prohibition Law 2006 prescribed punishment and penalty for street begging, including a fine of N5,000 and/or three months imprisonment.
