Members of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) yesterday shut down the National Assembly in compliance with the indefinite strike declared by organised labour.
The entrance and exit of the National Assembly were locked thereby preventing staff from gaining access to the sprawling complex.
The development brought activities in the assembly to a standstill.
Our correspondent noted that no staff was able to enter the premises.
It was also learnt that the striking workers had cut the power supply to the National Assembly.
PASAN members, an affiliate of the Nigeria Labour Congress thereafter laid siege to the entrance and exit of the National Assembly.
Some of the workers who arrived early to monitor the compliance met the entrance and exit gates blocked by two coastal buses.
Following the failure to reach a compromise on a new minimum wage by the tripartite committee set up by the Federal Government, the organised labour comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress commenced a nationwide strike.
