More women, who claimed to have been lured into hotel rooms, sedated and raped by police suspect, Belema Ibiama, have reported themselves to the police in Rivers State.
The police had on Friday last week paraded Ibiama after three ladies confessed to have been raped by him in hotel rooms he lured them to through social media.
The ladies had alleged that Ibiama, who has denied the claims by the ladies, invited them differently to his hotel room after meeting on the social media, drugged their drinks and they had carnal knowledge with them before disappearing.
But Ibiama, who is married with four children, however denied raping the lady, who recognized and arrested him at a supermarket. He said he had disagreed with the lady over how much he should pay her to sleep with him, so he sneaked out of the room and escaped.
But on Wednesday, the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Nnamdi Omoni, said about 20 more ladies have appeared to claim that they were raped in a similar fashion by Ibiama.
Omoni said before more victims were emerging, it might take longer before Obiama would be charged to court.
“The serial rapist has opened a new chapter in his confession. We are also deploying technical intelligence. We got calls from Imo State and Anambra State. They identified him with the parade of that day and exposed him further about his escapades over there,” he said.
Omoni said the hotels that harboured the suspect would be sanctioned. “While the serial killings were going on, we had a meeting with the proprietors of hotels in Rivers State where some guidelines were drawn up to implement. But from what has happened now, some of them are not complying strictly with those guidelines. And we are going to proceed against them,” Omoni added.

The PPRO said the police have not been able to prosecute the police officers that extorted N150,000 from a student of the University of Port Harcourt because the bank involved had not printed out the transaction.
“We have written to the bank requesting for the statement of account. And that has not been released to them. As soon as that is done we will narrow the matter to the suspect as alleged,” he said.
