NEMA urges Kwara residents to relocate to high land

Kwara state residents who are residing along river banks and lowland areas have been urged to relocate to higher plains. This advice was given by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in regards to threats of floods.
Four local governments had been affected and five hundred and twenty-eight families bore the brunt of the damages wrought by rainstorm and windstorm. These ones were beneficiaries of the humanitarian relief that was distributed by the agency in the state.
And Mrs Wagami Lydia, Head of NEMA, Minna Operations Office (Niger and Kwara), who was representing the DG of the agency during the distribution of the relief, advised that quality building materials should be used and building codes should be followed.
It is predicted by the Nigerian Meteorological Authority that twenty-eight states would be adversely affected by floods starting from the 6th of September 2020. These states include Nasarawa, Kogi and Kwara.
