NFF technical dept at loggerheads with Rohr

…Over Super Eagles list
The technical department of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) headed by ex-international, Austin Eguavoen, is heading for a collusion with the head coach of the Super Eagles, Gernot Rohr, over alleged disrespectful attitude of the coach towards members of the department.

ThisNigeria gathered that members of the department are unhappy with the way the German tactician handled the compilation of the names of players invited to the Super Eagles for the coming AFCON Qualifiers without the input of the technical department.

A member of the department, Garuba Lawal, who spoke on a radio sports programme in Lagos, noted that Rohr did not deem it fit to submit the list of players invited for the double AFCON Qualifiers against Benin Republic and Lesotho to the technical department for input before unveiling to the press.

Lawal pointed out that Rohr’s disrespect for the technical department was imminent in the manner he sneaked out of the country after the unveiling list without finding it imperative to defend it before the technical department as it is the practice globally.

He noted that if Rohr had carried the technical department along, the fear currently being expressed by Nigerians over the likely withdrawal of some of the invited foreign-based players wouldn’t have risen as the technical department would have made room for local players to fill the gap.

“If we have these our local players assembled for long there would not have been any problems. But it seems Rohr is not ready to do that despite the insistence of the technical director, Austin Eguavoen, telling him to visit the league centres to scout players.

“Even his list that he did, that day Austin and I were in the office, but we did not see the list. It was when I left office and went through the social media that I saw it there. Few minutes later a journalist called me about the list and I told him I’ve not seen it and he said, but you are in the technical department.

“Normally the process should start from there, but this moment it’s not from there. Funny enough, when the list was released, Rohr was already in Germany or France. He left immediately he submitted the list and was nowhere to be seen to defend that list and we’re not happy about it,’’ he said.
