Anjorin died after a man wielding a sword stabbed him, two police officers, and two others, in a street attack, police said. The man used what appeared to be a Samurai-type sword in the Hainault district shortly before 7:00 am (0600 GMT).
Anjorin was a student at Bancroft’s, the same independent day school attended by Grace O’Malley-Kumar, one of the victims in a recent stabbing incident.
In a statement, Holy Family Catholic School, where Daniel’s mother works, expressed deep sadness at the loss, identifying her as Mrs. Anjorin. They requested prayers for Mrs. Anjorin, her husband, and their other children during this difficult time.
Meanwhile, the United Kingdom’s (UK’s) Metropolitan Police have identified the assailant as a 36-year-old man who used Taser stun weapons and took him into custody.
Door camera footage showed the moment the knifeman was Tasered and arrested on the driveway of a semi-detached house. Armed officers arrived on the scene seconds later.
Police said they arrested the 36-year-old man using Taser stun weapons and took him into custody. The incident is not believed to be terror-related, they said.
“This is an incredibly tragic incident that has resulted in a young boy losing his life and his family devastated,” Detective Chief Inspector Larry Smith who led the investigation said.
“On behalf of the family, I would ask that their privacy is respected.” Bancroft’s, the school Anjorin attended before he was killed, described him as a “true scholar”.
“Daniel joined Bancroft’s at seven years old and quickly became a core member of our community,” Bancroft’s said in a statement.
“His positive nature and gentle character will leave a lasting impact on us. Losing such a young pupil is something we will always struggle to come to terms with.”
King Charles III called the stabbings “horrific” and paid tribute to the “courage” of the emergency services, Buckingham Palace said.
“His thoughts and prayers are with all those affected — in particular, the family of the young victim who has lost his life,” a spokesman said.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak called the stabbings “shocking”. “Such violence has no place on our streets,” he added in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
“I’d like to thank the emergency services for their ongoing response and pay tribute to the extraordinary bravery shown by police on the scene.”
Video footage and photographs posted on social media appeared to show a man in a yellow jumper on the streets near houses with the weapon.
Emergency service vehicles, including police, fire, and ambulances, were seen behind cordons, including near the town’s underground railway station.
