OCHA Brigade demolishes shanties, criminals hideouts in Anambra

The Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA) Brigade has sealed off over 500 shops and business premises as well as demolished many illegal structures and shanties in the state.

 

Other locations affected by the demolition and seal-off exercises include the popular building material International Market Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area, shanties and illegal structures lodging hoodlums, and criminals in the area.

 

Managing Director of Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA) Brigade Comrade, Celestine Anere disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen on Wednesday.

 

He said the operation was to chase away all the criminals operating within Ogidi and Ogbunike axis.

 

Anere explained that the special enforcement team commenced operation clean Anambra on Tuesday, to raid all illegal structures and criminal elements hideouts to restore sanity in the state.

 

According to him, these criminals terrorizing the area have been maiming and committing all kinds of heinous crimes on innocent citizens and business owners plying the road.

 

Annie noted that several incidences of crimes like kidnapping and carjacking took place in those areas.

 

He also described the spot as tip-off points for informants of organized crimes in the area, which has continued to be a nightmare for business owners, who occasionally fall victim to armed robbery, kidnapping and theft.

“The dismantling of these shanties and illegal structures will also aid the free flow of water through the canals as these structures were constructed on waterways, which has obstructed the drainage system.

 

Aside from the above stated, it will help reduce traffic and decongest the area for smooth vehicular movement.”

 

“Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra; Ocha Brigade will continue to ensure that the state is safe and conducive for Gov. Charles Chukwuma Soludo’s agenda on the green, clean, healthy, livable and prosperous homeland,” he said.
