Ogun Assembly summons monarch over land dispute
…canvasses stiffer legal measures, stringer bail condition for suspected cultists

Ogun Assembly has summoned a traditional ruler in the state over allegations of invasion of a landed property belonging to another family.
The monarch is Oba Adewale Adeniji, Oniraniken of Iranike (Elewu Oku) in Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The 26-member house summoned Oba Adeniji to appear before it Wednesday next week, over allegations of threat to life and invasion of Olumeru Adeyemi Sodiya Family land, in the council area.
The lawmakers warned that it may be forced to invoke section 129 of the 1999 Federal Republic of Nigeria’s Constitution (As Amended) on the Oba to appear should he failed to honour the invitation.
Speaker of the House of Assembly Hon. Kunle Oluomo, who made this known during plenary, frowned at the refusal of the traditional not to have honoured two previous invitations of the lawmakers.
The committee on lands and housing led by Hon. Damilola Soneye had in the past summoned the monarch to explain allegations of an alleged threat to life and invasion of the other family/s land.
Meanwhile, the assembly has sought collaboration of security forces in the state over rising cases of cultism with the Ijebu axis of the state.
The peace and tranquility within communities in Ijebu Ode Ijebu North East, Ijebu East and Odogbolu council areas of the state in the recent past has been alarming.
Oluomo, made the call, while responding to the separate submissions of members representing the various council areas in the assembly.
The assembly challenged all concerned stakeholders especially the judicial arm of government to evolve more legal measures that will ensure stringent bail conditions for suspected cultists and those involved in related cases.
The stiffer commitment from sureties according to the lawmakers will serve as a deterrent to others with a view to curbing the recurrence of cult-related clashes across the state.
