Opobo/Nkoro administrator approves immediate implementation of Cohans salary structure

 

The Administrator of Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area, of Rivers State, Mr. Frederick Apiafi has approved the immediate implementation of COHANS salary structure to all health workers in the area.

He further pledged to provide good healthcare services and prioritised welfare of health workers, saying that good health was most important in human life.

This follows earlier directives by the State Sole administrator Vice Admiral Ibok Ete Ibas (Rtd), to all local government administrators to deliver good health care services to the people at rural areas.

Mr. Apiafi, gave the approval yesterday (Friday, 2nd May 2025), when he had a combined interactive session with the different sections of health workers in the local government area.

According to him, he will stop at nothing to see that the health of the people of the area and the welfare of the health workers are given topnotch attention by his administration.

” I want to emphasis that the provision of good health care services is very critical for the well-being of every human. We will do our best to solve those challenges facing health workers.

“I am so much concerned about wellbeing of human beings, that is more reason why I attached so much importance to health workers immediately I resumed office.

“As I speak I have approved the immediate implementation of
COHANS salary structure which previous administration has refused to implement” Mr. Apiafi said.

The Opobo/Nkoro boss equally used the forum to commend all health workers in the area for their commitment and dedication to work in spite of various challenges they are facing, however solicit their support to enable him succeed particularly in health sector.

Earlier in his opening remarks, the Medical Officer of Health (MOH) in charge of Opobo Nkoro Local Government Area, Dr. Denis Alege, enumerated various challenges facing the health workers.

Dr. Alege, appealed to the administrator to build mini abbator and build more public toilets to avoid open defecation and environmental pollution. He also called on the administrator to do other things that can motivate health workers to enable them work effectively and efficiently.

Speaking while giving vote of thanks, the Head of Local Government Administration(HLGA) Oye Christian reiterated that the administrator was desirous to leave positive and indelible marks, especially in the area of health, promising that the council will continue to be supportive to health workers for them to do their work seamlessly.
