With the 2nd Dr. D. K. Olukoya Ibile Football Cup set to kick off on May 23 in Lagos, the organisers are already promising fans an exciting championship that will feature over 16 teams.
The Chief organiser and chairperson of the Lagos State Football and Other Sports Supporters Club, Shade Gbajumo, who spoke with the media yesterday said that winner of the competition will take home N150,000.00, while the runners-up and third-placed teams will receive N100,000.00 and N50,000.00 respectively.
She was emphatic of a hitch-free competition among several teams in and around Lagos State as teams from Ikeja, Badagry, Epe, Lagos Island, and Ikorodu Jostle for the glamorous Dr. D. K. Olukoya Cup won last year by Ikorodu.
“We are grateful to Dr. D. K. Olukoya, a true man of God, for his continued resolve to back youth football development. We have pledged to encourage him with a quality organisation in this 2nd edition. There would be no compromise on discipline and fairness,” Gbajumo said on behalf of the Main Organising Committee (MOC).
“Registration of teams is still on at the Lagos State Football and Other Sports Supports office at Teslim Balogun Stadium Surulere. Only teams ready to abide by our rules towards a smooth Dr. D.K. Olukoya Ibile cup would be registered. There would be no late registration after this weekend so interested teams should do so now.
“The Tournament’s opening ceremony will hold at the Lagos Registration Centre Isheri on May 23 while the grand finale comes up May 31, 2023 at the Campus Mini Stadium Lagos Island”, she concluded.
