Paris 2024 Olympics qualifiers: Nigerian boxers shine in Dakar

Team Nigeria to the African Continental Qualification Tournament in Dakar, Senegal ended the tournament in style on Friday 15th September with three gold medals.

The tournament serves as qualifier for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France.

On the final day of the qualifiers, Cynthia Ogunsemilore Temitayo, who had already picked a ticket for the 2024 Olympics punched Khelif Hadjila from Algeria in the women’s 60kg to win the gold medal.

In the other fight, Nigeria’s Omole Dolapo defeated Leta Fikremariyam Yadesa from Ethiopia in the Men’s 57kg to also win a gold medal.

Also in the men’s 92kg, Olaore Olaoitan Adams outboxed Houmri Mohamed from Algeria to win the third gold medal for Nigeria.

Speaking on their performance, Secretary General of Nigeria Boxing Federation, Dapo Akinyele commended the team for a job well done, noting that their achievement is an evidence of hard work.

Also speaking National Chief Coach Tony Konyegwachie said that with the qualification of the boxers to the Olympics, efforts will now be concentrated on how to prepare them well ahead of the Games.

Nigeria went to the qualifiers with nine boxers made up of six females and three males.
