Peace, security made Delta attractive to investors — Oborevwori

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has attributed the increasing interest of investors in Delta State to the prevailing atmosphere of peace and security, saying the state has become a favourable destination for business expansion and economic growth.
A statement issued on Thursday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Festus Ahon, said Oborevwori spoke during the inauguration of Zenith Bank’s new branch in Osubi, Okpe Local Government Area, on Wednesday.
The governor described the development as a positive signal of investors’ confidence in Delta State and its growing economic prospects.
According to the statement, Oborevwori said the decision by the financial institution to establish a presence in the community underscored the success of his administration’s efforts to maintain peace, strengthen security and create an enabling environment for businesses.
He noted that such investments reflect the increasing attractiveness of the state as a destination for commercial and economic activities.
According to the governor, the opening of the facility goes beyond the launch of a banking hall and serves as evidence that investors see opportunities in the state.
He praised the leadership of Zenith Bank, led by Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Adaora Umeoji, for honouring an earlier commitment to bring banking services closer to residents of Osubi and surrounding communities.
Oborevwori recalled that shortly after his administration assumed office, discussions were held on the need for a banking presence in the area, adding that the promise has now materialised.
He noted that the branch is currently the only banking facility operating within Okpe Local Government Area, describing it as a significant development for residents and businesses that have long sought easier access to financial services.
The governor said the state government’s efforts to strengthen security and maintain stability have contributed to an environment where businesses can operate with confidence and investors can commit resources without fear.
He added that the administration would continue to prioritise policies aimed at attracting investments, improving infrastructure and supporting partnerships with the private sector.
According to him, the presence of a major financial institution in Osubi is expected to deepen financial inclusion, boost commercial activities, support small and medium-scale enterprises and stimulate economic development in the locality.
Oborevwori further assured investors that Delta State remains committed to providing the conditions necessary for businesses to flourish, stressing that peace and security remain key pillars of his administration’s development agenda.
Speaking at the event, Umeoji commended the governor for supporting private-sector initiatives and fostering an enabling climate for investment.
She disclosed that the land on which the branch was built was provided by the state government at no cost, describing the gesture as a demonstration of the administration’s commitment to economic growth and business development.
The Zenith Bank chief also lauded the governor’s M.O.R.E Agenda, saying ongoing infrastructure projects and development initiatives across the state have contributed to the improving business environment and encouraged greater corporate investment.
