Police arraign barber for intimidating woman

The Police on Wednesday arraigned a 20-year-old barber, Salisu Garba at a Kano Sharia Court for allegedly intimidating a woman.

Garba, who lives at Brigade Quarters Kano, is facing a two-count charge of criminal intimidation and obstruction of a public servant.

The prosecutor, Insp Abdullahi Wada told the court that one Habiba Imam, a staff of the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), Kwana Hudu branch, reported the matter at Kwana Hudu Police Station, Kano, on March 10.

He alleged that on the same day at about 11:30 a.m., Garba stopped Imam, the complainant from coming to their area to distribute electricity bills or collect money.

According to him, the defendant obstructed the complainant from discharging her duty and also intimidated her.

The prosecutor said the offense contravened Sections 227 and 331 of the Penal Code.

The defendant pleaded guilty to the charge.

The Judge, Dr. Bello Khalid, ordered the remand of the defendant in Correctional Centre.

He adjourned the matter until March 23 for a summary trial.
