‘’That the Rural Electrification Agency(REA) should extend its activities to Electrification in Ayedaade/Irewole/Isokan Federal Constituency, Osun State
Debating the motion, the House noted that the Security and Welfare of the People shall always be the primary purpose of government and as such, Government must continue to provide a suitable environment to boost economic activities and secure the life of the citizenry.
The House further aligned itself with the provisions of Section 4(4) and item 13 Part II of the Concurrent Legislative List of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999(as amended) which states that the National Assembly may make laws for the Federation or any part thereof on electricity and the establishment of electric power stations and for the generation and transmission of electricity in or to any part of the Federation and from one State to another.
Following the extant provision, it argued on the significance of electricity as an important infrastructure needed to boost economic activities and improve the security of any locality within the Federal Republic of Nigeria, such as the request for the quick provision of 132/133 KVA Electricity Substation in Ayedaade/Irewole/Isokan Federal Constituency.
However, presenting the general principles of the motion, the sponsor of the motion, honourable Oluga, explained that the power infrastructure will not only improve the living standards and security of Irewole, Ayedaade and Isokan Local Governments in Osun State, it will also boost economic activities in the Federal Constituency and rejuvenate ailing industries in Apomu, Gbogan, Orile Owu, Araromi, Ikire, Ayetoro Balogun, Wasimni Communities, with almost one million Nigerians who live in constituency benefitting .
The lawmaker, noted that since electricity value chain, includes electricity generation, transmission and distribution, with their respective roles in meeting the power needs of the nation, it is essential for the agencies driving the process, whether government or privately owned, to further collaborate with a view of increasing and catalysing electricity access to the constituency and other rural communities in the country
