Reps order arrest of CBN governor, Cardoso

The House of Representatives Committee on Public Petitions has ordered the arrest of the Central Bank Governor, Mr. Olayemi Cardoso.

The order for his arrest followed the adoption of a motion by Rep Fred Agbedi (PDP-Bayelsa) at the committee’s hearing on Tuesday.

Cardoso alongside the Accountant General of the Federation, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Madein, and 17 others were issued a warrant of arrest over their refusal to appear before the house to answer questions on their operations.

According to Agbedi, issuing the arrest warrant had become inevitable after the CEOs had been invited four times, but failed to honour the invites

He said that the CEOs should be brought to appear before the committee by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun through a warrant of arrest after due diligence by the Speaker, Rep Tajudeen Abbas.

Ruling on the motion, the chairman of the committee, Micheal Irom disclosed that the IGP should ensure the CEOs were brought before the committee on December 14.
