Sanwo-Olu orders immediate waste evacuation across Lagos, deploys more refuse trucks

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has directed an immediate expansion of waste evacuation operations across the state following the accumulation of refuse in some parts of Lagos.
Sanwo-Olu, in a statement on Thursday, said the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), and the Ministry of the Environment had intensified efforts to restore cleanliness across affected areas.
He said additional trucks and personnel had been deployed to clear the backlog, assuring residents that the government would continue the exercise until the city was completely rid of accumulated waste.
“LAWMA, LASEPA, and the Ministry of Environment are currently working around the clock. We have deployed extra trucks and personnel to clear the backlogs across all affected neighbourhoods,” the governor said.
Sanwo-Olu noted that Lagos generates more than 13,000 tonnes of waste daily, describing waste management in the state as a major undertaking that requires sustained commitment and cooperation from residents.
“As we continue this cleanup, I ask for your partnership. Please bag your waste properly and avoid dumping refuse in drainage channels or on the roads,” he urged.
The governor assured Lagosians that the situation was being addressed, calling for collective responsibility in maintaining a clean and safe environment across the state.
