A prominent member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Senator George Sekibo has urged the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, to resign from office.
This follows comments made by Fubara during a church service honoring the late elder statesman, Edwin Clark, where he remarked that his “spirit has left the government house,”.
In response, Sekibo, while speaking during an interview on Arise News, suggested that the governor’s statement reflects “a clear disengagement from leadership”.
He advised Fubara to make his departure official by dropping his resignation for the sake of the state’s stability.
“If truly his spirit has left government house, Rivers people will be so happy. Let him put in his resignation that he doesn’t want to be Governor of Rivers State. That’ll restore peace,” he said.
He further stated that the suspended governor was making a big mistake with his utterances and advised him not to keep the Rivers people in suspense and put a letter of resignation forward to effect his desire not return to office.
He said “If he doesn’t want to go back to the government house, he should not put the Rivers people in suspense. If I were him, I’ll put a letter and resign whatever way it is done and go and live my life. Let those who are politicians play politics in Rivers state.”
