At least one person has been shot dead and several others wounded on Tuesday in a renewed bloody shoot-out between rival secret cult members in Awka the Anambra state capital.
The incident took place in the afternoon at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NIZIK) junction in the capital town.
Sadly, the rival cult war was between tricycle operators otherwise known as Keke riders as against the usual skirmishes among students in the area.
However, during the melee, a young man believed to be the leader of the tricycle operators was mowed down even as residents and roadside traders along the densely populated area scampered for safety.
There were sporadic shots as blood flowed during the fracas which forced shop owners to quickly close for the day.
It was gathered the shooting may not be in unconnected with suprema y tussle between members of the Keke riders and a planned protest by members of the Tricycle riders association today (Wednesday).
Activities of rival secret cult members have been a cause for worry among tricycle operators, butchers, and timber dealers in various markets in the state.

Police Public Relations Officer of the state command, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu could not be reached for confirmation as at the time of this report.
A senior police officer who preferred to remain anonymous confirmed the incident but said that a distress call on the police patrol team had saved the day during the clash between the groups.
