Sanwo-Olu charges corps members to affect lives positively with innovations

Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has charged corps members of the 2021 Batch ‘A’ Stream 11 to affect lives positively with their innovations and irrepressible spirit.

Sanwo-Olu gave the charge at the passing out parade of 5,047 corps members of the 2021 Batch ‘A’ Stream 11, on Thursday at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos.

He also urged them to strive to be good ambassadors for their families and avoid an ostentatious lifestyle.

Sanwo-Olu was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Relations, Mr. Sesan Ogundeko.

“I wish to congratulate you for the achievement of this milestone in our national life, which has now activated your passage into another scale to the development of our nation.

“My dear corp members, I remember with pleasant nostalgia when you have sworn into the service of our fatherland a year ago, it was a year that seemed too long.

“Especially considering that challenges before us as a nation at that time, but today, you have surmounted the challenges and prevalently the COVID-19 pandemic has been fought and made less threatening to our national life,” Sanwo-Olu said.

The governor commended the immediate past NYSC Lagos Coordinator, Mr. Eddy Megwa, saying his efforts in the preparation of a virile youth force were well acknowledged while welcoming the new Coordinator, Mrs. Yetunde Baderinwa to the state.

“I wish to state that the Lagos State Government will continue to explore all necessary avenues by which support can be provided for the seamless operations of the scheme,” he said.

He said that the state government and people of Lagos were pleased with NYSC activities and the contributions of corps members deployed to the development of the state.

“I specifically appreciate your role in ensuring that you kept the state clean through the NYSC National Environmental Sanitation exercise and the various community development projects executed across the state,” the governor said.

Mrs. Yetunde Baderinwa, the NYSC Coordinator in the state, congratulated the corps members for the successful completion and fulfillment of the requirement award of the Certificate of National Service (CNS).

Baderinwa tasked the youths to continue to contribute immensely to the development of the scheme.

“Do not wait for what your country will do for you, rather ingeniously see what you can do for this nation,” she said.

She disclosed that 12 corp members would have their service year repeated for various offenses such as absconding and going contrary to the scheme rules.

The coordinator also solicited maximum support from Nigerians toward the NYSC Trust Fund.

According to her, the Fund will bring about transformation, the establishment of projects, and the injection of funds for training.
