Sexual assault: Baba Ijesha has right to appeal court ruling – Yomi Fabiyi

Nollywood actor, Yomi Fabiyi says convicted actor Olarewaju James , also known as Baba Ijesha, should be allowed to appeal the court rulling as it is within his constitutional right.

ThisNigeria reported that an Ikeja High Court on Thursday sentenced Baba Ijesha to 16 years imprisonment after finding him guilty for alleged sexual assault of a minor.

Recall that the defendant was arrested for sexually assaulting the 15 year- old daughter of comedian and actress Damilola Adekoya, aka Princess in April 2021.

Reacting to the judgement , Fabiyi said “Fair trial and hearing is part of the fundamental human right and in this case, I understand that the Lagos state government allows the that victim, the defendant and the public have their rights protected.

“The argument of the defendant is that he is not guilty so he also has the opportunity to appeal the verdict because it is within his statutory right.

“We should allow the defendant to exercise his entire fundamental right which is going to appeal if necessary, to challenge the rulling of this court.

“There is no point denying the fact that we are colleagues. Others can choose to deny it but I will not and what I am fighting for is the right of everyone involved, the victim, the defendant and the public.”
