Shettima visits Ethiopian wheat farm, pushes agriculture for better nutrition

Vice President Kashim Shettima has visited a wheat farm in Ethiopia’s Oromia Region as Nigeria and Ethiopia explore ways to strengthen agriculture and improve nutrition.

Shettima’s visit formed part of the second day of the Ethiopia–Nigeria Leadership Exchange, themed “Moving the Needle on Nutrition,” according to a Thursday statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha.

The Vice President’s first field engagement for the day focused on agriculture value-chain transformation in Oromia, with discussions centred on how increased agricultural production and stronger food systems could contribute to better nutrition outcomes.

Shettima and the Nigerian delegation were hosted by the President of Oromia National Regional State, Shimelis Abdissa.

Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, and Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, participated in the engagement as lead discussants.

The visit is part of Nigeria’s broader engagement with Ethiopia on food security, nutrition and agricultural development, with both countries sharing experiences on policies and programmes aimed at strengthening food production and value chains.
