In an effort to end the ongoing strike by organized labor, the Federal Government, through the National Salaries, Wages, and Income Commission, has invited the leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress for a meeting.
Although It remains uncertain whether the labor leaders will oblige the invitation
According to reports, some unions have shut down their workplaces to comply with the directive from the two labor unions to embark on an indefinite nationwide strike.
Recall that the organized labor had on Friday announced the commencement of a nationwide indefinite strike due to the Federal Government’s refusal to raise the proposed minimum wage from N60,000.
Both unions had previously set a deadline of May 31, 2024, for negotiations on the new minimum wage.
However, talks between organized labor and the Federal Government broke down on Tuesday after both parties could not agree to a definite amount.
The government increased its initial offer from N57,000 by adding N3,000, bringing it to N60,000, while labor also adjusted their demand from N497,000, reducing it to N494,000.
This proposal was however rejected by the labor union.
