Student bags one year jail term for stealing cell phone

An Upper Area Court in Jos on Tuesday sentenced a 19-year-old student, Simon Ohah to one-year imprisonment for stealing a cell phone

A panel made up of two Magistrates sentenced Ohah after he pleaded guilty to theft.

Magistrates Adams Galadima and Ishaq Danjuma, however, gave Ohah an option to pay a fine of N10, 000.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Ijuptil Thawur told the court that the case was reported on Nov. 12, 2021, at the Railway Police station by Mr Victor Emmanuel, the complainant.

He said that the convict stole the phone from the complainant’s bag and N50,000 cash.

The prosecutor said that the offence is punishable under the provisions of sections 59 and 272 of the Plateau Penal Code.(NAN)
