Coalition for Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Indigenous Association has appealed to the Federal Government to create a Mayoral position and provide social amenities for indigenous people of FCT.
Mr Isaac David, the Chairman, Koro ethnic group, made the call on Monday in an interview in Abuja.
He fielded questions on the commemoration of “World Indigenous Day”.
David explained that the FCT has nine indigenous ethnic groups across the 858 communities in the territory.
”If you check parameters of 8,800 square kilometres of the FCT, we are the major people who accommodate residents, give them comfort and peace guaranteed in the area.
”While other states emulate the atmosphere in the FCT, we appeal to the Federal Government to consider our demands because we are assisting on insecurity in the territory,” he said.
The coalition for FCT indigenes had organised a sensitisation rally to push on their demands for equity and social justice against the backdrop of World Indigeneous Day in Abuja.
